Barber State Licensing Boards

Barbers are licensed individually by the State. North Carolina requires a minimum of 1528 clock hours. North Carolina’s governing body for testing and licensing barbers is the North Carolina Board of Barber Examiners (NCBBE). regulations upon starting the barbering program.

Board of Barber Examiners (NCBBE). As the name implies, they govern only North Carolina. There is no national license or licensing body. When I moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina it was/is required to obtain a North Carolina license to work here. Because the Barbering program is licensed by the NCBBE annually, we are in compliance with the NCBBE.

Students are given the NCBBE contact information and a description of the board’s rules and regulations upon starting the barbering program.
