Looking Ahead: 2017-18 Academic Year (Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Summer 2018) and Beyond

Families will be able to begin completing the FAFSA on October 1, rather than January. This change more closely aligns the financial aid application process with the admission application process. In order to accommodate this earlier filing schedule, the FAFSA will collect income information from two years prior to the academic year for which the aid is intended (Prior-Prior Year), rather than the previous year. The new process begins in October 2016 for the 2017-18 award year.

October 1, 2016: You can complete your 2017-18 year FAFSA on or after this date. When doing so, you will use your 2015 tax data. This is the same tax data that you used when completing your 2016-17 year FAFSA.
