Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from birth through age five in diverse learning environments. The focus of this program is on individuals who have a desire to teach young children aged birth to pre-kindergarten 5-year-olds. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers. The Early Childhood program offers three-degree options, including transfer options, as well as three certificates.

Graduates are prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs in early childhood settings. Employment opportunities include child development and childcare programs, preschools, public and private schools, recreational centers, Head Start Programs, and school-age programs.

NC Early Childhood Credential

If you are working in a licensed child care setting, you may have been referred to A-B Tech so that you can earn the NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC). The NC Division of Child Development and Early Education is the entity that issues this credential. Our course, EDU-119 – Introduction to Early Childhood Education is one way that individuals can earn the NCECC. If you are interested in taking the EDU-119 course and are not a current A-B Tech student, you will need to complete the admissions processes that are part of becoming a student. If you need help with registration once you have completed the admissions processes, please contact Tamara Reynolds by email at tamaraereynolds@abtech.edu.
