The Executive Committee of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Board of Trustees convened a meeting on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. in the Simpson building. Mary Ann Rice, Chair, presided.
The following members of the Executive Committee were present: Joe Brumit, John Parham, and Frances Ramsey.
Additional Trustees present for the meeting included: Trustees Matt Kern and Bill Murdock. Trustee Roger Metcalf participated by phone.
Others present for the meeting included: Dennis King, President; Dirk Wilmoth, Vice President Business and Finance/CFO; Martin Lewis, Lewis Real Estate; Oliver Lewis, Lewis Real Estate; Will Buie, WGLA Engineering; and Carolyn Rice, Secretary to the Board.
At 4:05 p.m., Chair M. Rice called the meeting to order.
Offer For A-B Tech Enka
Mr. Martin Lewis offered the Committee $3.6 Million for seven acres at A-B Tech Enka, including the Haynes Tower. Mr. Lewis proposes to repurpose the Haynes Tower into office space with retail support. Mr. Lewis is familiar with the A-B Tech Enka property and the brownfield restrictions on the property.
Mr. Lewis committed to the offer and asked for time to perform due diligence, determine the cost of renovation, and prepare necessary marketing information. Additionally, Mr. Lewis would welcome input from the College during the architectural design process for the Haynes Tower.
The Lewis’s and Mr. Buie left at 5:05 p.m.
The Executive Committee discussed Mr. Lewis’s offer on the A-B Tech Enka property.
Mr. Brumit moved to present Mr. Lewis’s offer to the full Board on February 7, 2019. The motion was seconded by Dr. Metcalf and was approved by unanimous consent.
