2017 Trips Abroad Summaries:

 

Study Spanish abroad in Cuenca, Spain

Travel dates: June 3-18 (2-weeks) or June 3-July 2, 2017(4-weeks)

This trip is intended for: Students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Application deadline: March 1, 2017

Trip summary: Study abroad and practice your Spanish in Cuenca, Spain! Students attend classes Monday—Friday 9:00-1:00 as well as participate in various cultural activities including, but not limited to, Spanish cooking classes, dance classes, “tapas” nights, and weekend-day excursions while living with a Spanish family observing and learning about the cultural customs of Spain.

Costs: $3800 (2-weeks) or $5250 (4-weeks)

Program fee includes:

International airfare, checked luggage, all transportation in country, classes in language school (Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week), accommodations in a host family, travel insurance, daily planned activities, weekend-day excursions, 3 meals per day, laundry service.

What isn't included: Passport cost, personal & incidentals.

International Business and Culture in County Donegal, Ireland

Travel dates: June 5-19, 2017

This trip is intended for: Students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Application deadline: March 1, 2017

Trip summary: This program will focus on two tracks: Irish culture or national and international marketing, business and economics. The trip will include informal ‘cultural breakfast’ presentations, field trips to places of historical interest, combined with visits to business sites, from small craft businesses to multi-national companies. A deeper understanding of the historical, economic, and political issues of Ireland and this region will give context to Irish business and entrepreneurship. Also, opportunities to view art, participate in outdoor activities, and learn about civil rights issues of Northern Ireland. You will experience all things Irish: culture and history, music and pub entertainment, surfing and Gaelic sports, and rural towns. We complete the program with a visit to the city-based museums of Dublin.

Costs: $4000

Program fee includes:

International airfare, all transportation in country, breakfast every morning except arrival morning, all evening meals except for final evening in Dublin, accommodations in an apart-hotel with kitchen, travel insurance, daily planned activities, program fee, itinerary activities (except for optional activities as per schedule).

What isn't included: Checked luggage, personal & incidentals.

Service Learning & Cultural Immersion in Guatemala

Travel dates: May 20-June 3, 2017 

Application deadline: March 1, 2017

Trip summary: This program will be a service learning experience ideal for students looking to eventually work in the areas of allied health, early childhood, or small business development, as well as for transfer students hoping to gain more insight into Guatemalan culture. The trip will also include an interactive daily Spanish language component, excursions and outdoor activities, a weekend in Antigua, and other cultural activities.

Approximate Costs: $3000

Program fee includes:  International airfare, all transportation in country, some meals, accommodations, travel insurance, daily planned activities, program fee, sightseeing and excursions.

What isn't included: Checked luggage, personal & incidentals.

Important Scholarship Information:
 

Students interested in studying in Ireland, Spain, and Guatemala should consider applying for the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to U.S. undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. It aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in education abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. The program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs. How to participate:

  1. Participants must be current A-B Tech students to register for the course aligned with the trip. To become a student at A-B Tech, go to www.abtech.edu and apply! The course can be taken for curriculum credit or audited (no grade).
  2. A non-refundable deposit must be made using the proper forms through each Trip Leader. The balance can be made in monthly payments; amounts depend on each trip cost and departure date. Contact the Trip Leader for specific payment information.
  3. Pre-departure meetings will be scheduled and participants are required to attend at least one.
  4. Forms: Before departure, students must sign the Study Abroad Program Release Form, thereby agreeing to abide by the Code of Student Conduct and waiving all claims against A-B Tech for injury or loss sustained during the Study Abroad Program. An Emergency Contact form will also be required of all participants, and the Trip Leader will collect forms a month before departure. Participants will also be required to have health and accident insurance valid in and outside of the United States during the entire period of participation.
