Golden LEAF Foundation Scholarship

and Con Ed programs (up to $2250).

Criteria:

  • Curriculum students (Contact the Financial Aid Office @ financialaidoffice@abtech.edu for more information).
    • Will be selected based on their financial need as reported in their Free Application for Student Assistance (FAFSA).
    • Degree-seeking students must be enrolled as a full-time student in order to receive the maximum scholarship award.
  • Occupational continuing education students (Contact Sherri Davis - (828) 398-7701 - A-B Tech Madison for Con Ed application information)
    • Must enroll in Nurse Aide I and II; Electronic Health Records; Ophthalmic Assisting; EMT-Intermediate; or Basic Firefighter Indoctrination Training (BFIT) programs.
    • Must demonstrate a need under the federal TRIO formula and be enrolled in a career pathways program or a course that is scheduled for at least 96 hours and leads to a state and national credential.
  • Must be:
    • A resident of North Carolina
    • Reside in a qualifying county designated by Golden LEAF (Madison, Yancey, Buncombe)
  • At least one of the following:
    • Unemployed,
    • Underemployed (200% of Federal poverty levels),
    • Military veteran or military spouse,
    • Member of the NC National Guard, or
    • Member of an underserved population in specific workforce sectors, as identified by the college in collaboration with sector employers.
    • Working and earning wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.

 

Applicants will also be selected based on financial needs and county of residence. Other selection factors include:

  • The effect of the declining economy on his or her family.
    • Owned or employed in farming/agriculture business
    • Owned or employed in traditional industries (such as textile or furniture manufacturing)
    • Household member lost their job or gone from full-time to part-time employment
  • Academic Performance
  • Campus activities and community service
