The Sustainability Committee has been working with the Biology Department and Treasured Trees to establish tree awards on campus. The Magnolia in front of Fernihurst has already been designated as a Treasured Tree and the next award will be given to the Beech Tree.
A ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 13 on the Beech Tree Deck to celebrate the beautiful, old-growth in the heart of campus. “A couple of arborists have looked at the tree and feel that it is healthy enough to be saved so we’re also going to be working on healing this iconic tree on campus. Thanks to Helen Burrell for all her efforts and thanks to the Sustainability Committee for their support,” said Heath Moody, Department Chair for Construction Management, Building Science, and Sustainability Technologies.
