Madeline Delp, Miss Wheelchair North Carolina, Visits Campus

Madeline Delp, UNC Asheville senior, and Miss Wheelchair North Carolina visited our campus in February and then returned on the first of March to speak to the Student Government Association about the accessibility of our campus.

The SGA has a full detailed report of her findings, but overall Madeline found the Asheville campus to have a high level of accessibility, finding issues primarily in restrooms and lecture halls.

Madeline was in a car accident in February of 2004 when she was 10 years old. Her mother was told to expect the worse after she was in a coma. She regained consciousness but never regained the use of her legs. “The fight is so real for people to have accessible resources,” Madeline said.
