A-B Tech’s High School Equivalency and Project SEARCH Recognition Ceremony was June 6 at the Mission Health/A-B Tech Conference Center. The event ranks as one of the most uplifting of the year as several graduates shared personal stories about the way A-B Tech has changed their lives.
High School Equivalency graduates include the more than 170 students who have completed GED®, HiSet®, and/or Adult High School requirements through A-B Tech’s Transitional Studies this year. According to GED® Testing Service, 45% of GED® grads enroll in a college certificate or degree program within three years, and 35% of them do so within one year of earning a GED® credential. 90% of these students persist by re-enrolling from one semester to the next.
Project SEARCH Asheville is a one-year internship program at Mission Hospital for students ages 18-30 with disabilities. This program is a collaborative effort between A-B Tech’s Transitional Studies, Mission Health, The Arc of North Carolina, NC Council on Developmental Disabilities, Vaya Health, and NC Public Health and Human Services. Since Project SEARCH Asheville began in 2016, 94 percent of graduates have secured competitive employment (The Arc of North Carolina Spring 2019 Quarterly Newsletter). Project SEARCH is a nationally and internationally recognized program with over 500 sites.
