Learning the tricks of finding today’s in-demand jobs

A-B Tech has partnered with NCWorks Career Center and AARP Foundation to bring the BACK TO WORK 50+ program to Asheville. The program is aimed at job seekers who would like take advantage of free strategies for gaining entry back into the workforce. Information sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, August 8  in Room 451, Ferguson Center for Allied Health and Workforce Development on the college's Asheville campus, and again on Tuesday, August 13 at the NC Works Career Center. To register, call toll-free (855) 850-2525.

AARP Foundation launched the Smart Strategy Workshops to increase the services and resources available to 50+ job candidates nationally and in communities and to facilitate their access to in-demand jobs. The program offers workshops on the strategies needed to compete for full-time, in-demand jobs. Workshop participants can also apply for the free coaching program offering skills training, job search guidance and more.

At the same time that many 50+ workers are raising children and helping aging parents, more than three million are looking for full-time employment. The Great Recession has left Americans age 50+ facing the largest overall increase in long-term unemployment, the longest spells of joblessness and the least likelihood of finding a job. Older women bear the greater share of this burden: 60% of women 65 and older have incomes insufficient to cover basic, daily expenses, according to the AARP Foundation. AARP On-Line Learning

AARP Online Learning delivers content in engaging, highly-focused formats in language that supports our audience including: interactive videos and infographics, online games, social quizzes, online workshops and interactive webinars.
