Why A-B Tech?
Founded in 1959 in the heart of Asheville, A-B Tech is the largest higher education institution in Western North Carolina, serving more than 23,000 students a year in Buncombe and Madison counties through our curriculum, continuing education, and workforce development programs. Located on a picturesque campus bordered by Biltmore Estate, Asheville High School and Mission Health, A-B Tech attracts local residents, as well as people from across the country who are drawn to Asheville’s mountains and thriving community. A-B Tech also has four other locations in Madison County, South Asheville, Woodfin, and Enka, where our Small Business Center and Incubation Program and the Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast are located.
More than 82% of our students say A-B Tech is their college of first choice. Ranging from high school graduates to older adults who are changing careers, our students cite their primary reasons for attending A-B Tech as:
- Quality education that qualifies graduates for employment or admission to any public four-year college or university in North Carolina
- 75% less debt
- Highly qualified, caring instructors
- Small class sizes
- Customized and short-term workforce education developed with employers
Many A-B Tech graduates establish successful careers after receiving two-year degrees, diplomas or certificates, while others go on to obtain four-year and advanced degrees. Our alumni include doctors, lawyers, engineers, software designers, an international master chef, the manager of an advanced manufacturing facility in Hong Kong and an American Idol winner. A-B Tech alumni also are found in virtually any business in our region: they are the healthcare workers, accountants, engineers, veterinary techs, IT professionals, advanced manufacturing workers, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, and much more.
