SmarterMeasure Waivers and Retest Options
Starting in January 2015, all students are required to complete the SmarterMeasure online readiness assessment during the New Student Orientation. Students whose SmarterMeasure scores require them to take CTS 060 may be eligible for a waiver or retest. Keep in mind that all students seeking to take fully online classes must complete Moodle Online Orientation before registering for fully online classes, and there are no waiver options for Fast Track.
Students whose SmarterMeasure scores place them into CTS 060 may be eligible for a waiver from CTS 060 if they meet one of the following criteria:
- Successfully completed (with a grade of C or higher) a computer course similar to CTS 060 at another college within the past five years, such as CIS 110, CIS 111, or CIS 113.
- Successfully completed (with a grade of C or higher) a college-level computer course at A-B Tech (including CIS 110, CIS 111, or CIS 113) in a face-to-face or hybrid format since taking SmarterMeasure.
If approved, the waiver will be posted to the student's account within one business day. If the student receiving a waiver scored low on the Personal Attributes and Life Factors (below 71) sections of SmarterMeasure, they will also need to complete Fast Track. For questions about CTS 060 waivers, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students whose SmarterMeasure scores place them into CTS 060 are eligible for a retest after successfully completing 12 credits (achieving a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher) at A-B Tech since taking SmarterMeasure. The retest is the Computer Skills Placement (CSP-Basic) test based on Windows 8/2013. The CSP-Basic consists of 30 questions on file management, word processing, and internet and email. If a student who passes the retest scored low on the Personal Attributes and Life Factors (below 71) sections of SmarterMeasure, they will also need to complete Fast Track.
The retest must be taken in person at the A-B Tech Testing Center located in the Simpson Building on A-B Tech's main campus. Before visiting the Testing Center for a retest, students must obtain a SmarterMeasure Retesting Permission form, which is available at the Information Desk in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Building.
