Financial Aid & Scholarship Information

FAFSA - free application for federal student aid banner

All curriculum students wishing to apply for financial aid must first complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the financial aid office is able to determine any financial aid eligibility.  To visit the website to complete your application, click Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).   Please note that you will need your federal income tax filing information from the most recent filing year available when completing your FAFSA application.  Students who are still claimed as dependents by their parents/guardian will need their parents/guardian's federal income tax filing information available when completing the FAFSA application.   The school code for A-B Tech is 004033.

Golden LEAF Scholarship Programs  for Madison County Residents

Scholarships are available to students who demonstrate financial need, to help them attend college at a participating North Carolina community college. Madison County is a qualifying county for the Golden LEAF Scholarship Program. To apply, please contact Sherri Davis at 398-7701 or Leronica Casey at 398-7562.

Award Amount
Up to $750 per semester, including summer term, is available for curriculum students and up to $250 per semester for continuing education students enrolling in occupational programs such as Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II, EMT-Intermediate, BFIT (Basic Firefighter Indoctrination Training), Ophthalmic Assisting, and Electronic Health Record Specialist.  Awards can be applied toward tuition, fees, books, supplies at A-B Tech Community College, transportation, child care expenses related to attending classes, and mid-skills credential testing upon course completion.

Travers Scholarship

Metalworking Scholarship from Travers Tool Company

Travers Tool is proud to announce our first ever Metalworking Student Scholarship. In conjunction with our partners (see below), Travers Tool will award $1,250+ in tools to a student enrolled in metalworking or welding program at vocational, technical school, community college or university. As your metalworking experts, Travers Tool is thrilled to sponsor the industry’s next generation of machinists.

Participants must meet the following criteria:
  • Enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university in the U.S.
  • Enrolled at the graduate level, undergraduate level or your final year of high school
  • Aged seventeen (17) years or older
  • Completed metalworking classes in the last calendar year
  • Applications must be received by by December 31, 2018

  • Do not send any letters of recommendation, tax returns, bank balances, resumes or CVs

Scholarship Topic

Your application should include:

Section 1: A personal essay — limited to three paragraphs, and between 500 and 1,500 words — about yourself and your interest in metalworking.

Section 2: A project review detailing — in writing, with pictures and/or diagrams — a machining project that you completed. It should cover the tools you used, your deployed methods, and it should explain the goal of your completed work.
