Software

Software for each of our courses is available in the lab for the specific course, however, if you are interested in having the same software at home, you may consider the software below. In general, the following software will be used in all our degree programs:

  • Windows 10 Professional
  • HTML5 compliant web browser (IE 9.0, Firefox 4.0, Chrome 11, etc)
  • Microsoft Office 2016 (see below)

Computer Information Technology

Students in computer courses requiring Microsoft Office 2016 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access) would need a personal Office 365 license for home use. Licenses may be purchased online, or at the campus bookstore. 

Microsoft DreamSpark

The Computer Technologies Department is a member of the Microsoft DreamSpark for Academic Institutions. This allows qualified CT students to access available software through the MSDN webstore website (operating systems, C++, Networking and other software). To enroll in DreamSpark please contact please contact a Brenda McFarland . Note: Office 2016 (Word, Powerpoint and Excel) are not available through DreamSpark.

Digital Media Technologies

Projects in the Digital Media program rely on access to a number of software applications, most especially Adobe's suite of software. The following software applications are available in the Digital Media classrooms (Balsam 104/115) as well as the Balsam 003 lab.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud - includes commonly used Adobe applications for design and development, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash and recent additions such as Adobe Edge, Edge Reflow and Edge Inspect. Video tools such as Premiere Pro, Encore, Audition and After Effects will be used as needed.
  • Documents - Microsoft Office, Open Office, Google Docs, or equivalent
  • Coding tools - Many free options exist such as: Notepad++brackets and others.
  • XAMPP - Open-source software. Includes Apache Web Server, MySQL, php, phpMyAdmin, cgi
  • Others - other software tools may be used as needed in classes.
  • Online - online tools and services will be used when appropriate.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

All GIS classes use ESRI's ArcGIS. This software is provided through a 1-year Educational License by your instructor. This software will only operate under a Windows Operating System. The software WILL NOT run on a Mac OS unless you use Boot Camp and Windows 7 or a Virtual Machine and Windows 7. 

Mobile Development

  • Coding tools: Many free options exist such as: Notepad++, TextPad, brackets and others.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud - includes commonly used Adobe applications for design and development, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premiere Pro, Audition and recent additions such as Edge Animate, Edge Reflow and Edge Inspect.

  • Others - other software tools may be used as needed in classes.
  • Online - online tools and services will be used when appropriate.

Web Technologies
