Community Voices Lecture Series

Community Voices is an ongoing professional development lecture series featuring community members from a variety of backgrounds. The goal of this series is to encourage dialogue about the rich diversity of the Asheville area community. We welcome A-B Tech students, employees, and the public to attend. All Community Voices events are free and will be held in Ferguson Auditorium on the A-B Tech Asheville campus (unless otherwise indicated).

Nichole Townsend is a community organizer and poet currently living in Asheville, NC. Unapologetically Black and Queer, Nichole's journey into movement work came many years before she attended her first organized action. She works full time in forest protection, as well as collectively fighting for the liberation of Black folks, Undocumented folks, Queer folks, Trans folks, and Poor Folks. She is affiliated with Southerners On New Ground, Asheville Writers in Schools, Bountiful Cities, Compañeros  Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción, and the Grassroots Equity Alliance. Ms. Townsend will discuss colorism and its implications for the African American community.
