The Executive Committee of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Board of Trustees convened a meeting on Friday, June 28, 2019, at 8:40 a.m. in the Simpson Building. Mary Ann Rice, Chair, presided.
The following members of the Executive Committee were present: Joe Brumit, Roger Metcalf, and Frances Ramsey.
Others present for the meeting included: Dennis King, President; Dirk Wilmoth, Vice President, Business and Finance/CFO; and Carolyn Rice, Secretary to the Board.
Buncombe County Budget
Dr. Wilmoth discussed the College’s budget line by line with the Committee. Since Buncombe County has reduced the appropriations to the College by $2 Million, the College is unable to balance the budget and will be in a deficit situation by the fall.
The College has asked the County for an increase to the budget and was informed that the County has cut funding across the board for education.
The Committee discussed several solutions to the budget deficit and agreed that Chair Rice along with Dr. King and Dr. Wilmoth would meet with the Chair of the Buncombe County Commissioners to discuss a solution.
