Registration for Continuing Education classes never ends!

Yellow star burst with red border that reads "Register NOW"

If you have been to the A-B Tech website, seen our billboards around town or received our postcards in the mail, you may find yourself a little panicky that you need to register for your non-credit, continuing education class by mid-August.  Never fear; here is some clarification about the difference between registering for non-credit classes and credit classes, and the good news is…YOU STILL HAVE TIME!

The non-credit division of the college, most often thought of as Continuing Education, has expanded the name to include Economic and Workforce Development to encompass our Mission Statement, “We are committed to improving the quality of life for individuals and the community by offering learning opportunities to promote personal, workforce and economic development”.   We mail out three class schedules a year to all the residents of Buncombe and Madison County due to arrive in time to register for Fall, Winter or Spring/Summer classes.  Hopefully you have seen our most recent schedule that has been arriving in mailboxes over the past few weeks.  If you missed it or accidentally recycled it, you can find this schedule HERE

As you browse through our catalog, you will notice that classes begin on a variety of dates throughout the fall as compared to credit classes which began on August 18th or at a few other intervals for 8 or 4 week minimester classes.  One of the main registration differences for non-credit classes is that students can register up to the start date of most classes.  However, we do recommend you register as soon as possible to ensure you will have a seat in the class as some of our most popular classes fill up fast.  Registering early also helps us assess if we have reached our minimum enrollment to offer a class. We generally will cancel a class one week prior to the start date if enrollment is too low so please don’t wait until a few days before the class starts to sign up.  YOU might make the difference between “Go” or “Cancel.”

So how does one register for our classes?  For your convenience, we have 3 ways you can register which are outlined on our website at  Payment is required at the time of registration which guarantees you a seat in the class of your choice.   For those who prefer to register in person, we have a registration office in the Hemlock building on the Asheville campus and in the lobby of the Haynes building on our Enka campus.  If you are computer savvy, you can register and pay online.  For those who want to do things the old-fashioned way, you can fill out a form and send it to us in the mail.

We would love to see you in our classrooms!  Come take advantage of the wide array of classes we offer as we strive to promote lifelong learning and the resources needed to aid those in our community to be successful both personally and professionally.
