One skill needed to successfully develop solutions to problems is called critical thinking. Critical thinking is the ability to apply reason and logic to new or unfamiliar ideas, opinions, and situations. Thinking critically involves seeing things in an open-minded way and examining an idea or concept from as many angles as possible. Improving your critical thinking skills means improving the way you think.

Our Ophthalmic Assisting class began the first week in June and the class will meet over a 6-7 month period. There is a new Ophthalmic lab on the Enka campus where the class is held and clinical time is spent in nearby ophthalmic offices. Students who pass the class and certification exam are able to work nationally as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
Recently we held a Job Fair at AB Tech and over 400 people attended –all were seeking jobs but maybe a third were dressed appropriately. Now what is appropriate – well if you’re attending a job fair or job interview there is one type of appropriate and that is professional. Even if the job is for a landscaper or farm hand, dress professional to a fair or interview.
Very soon A-B Tech will begin offering two courses leading to a certification as a Logistics Technician. This certification can open the door to a higher paying job with good future potential or improve your skills with your current employer ensuring your continued value as an employee.

Basically, soft skills are self-management skills. They are essential for work, learning and life, and they provide the foundation for learning all other skills.
