A-B Tech’s Wellness Committee, along with instructors and students, is creating a three-mile walking trail on the Asheville Campus. The trail will encircle Campus, traveling through woods and along sidewalks and wood-chipped paths. We determined the best way to grow A-B Trek is to work on it in phases.
- In phase one, we’ll focus on the Forest Loop to meet minimum usability and safety requirements
- In phase two, we’ll begin to add features such as picnic tables, benches, and kiosks
- In phase three, we plan to grow the trail, exploring, for example, partnerships with Asheville High School, Mission Health, and Buncombe County Greenways to encourage collaborative expansion for the greatest benefit to the community
A-B Tech students have been involved in the development of the trail. Geographic Information Systems students worked on mapping the trail with GPS coordinates. A Phase One map, the Forest Loop, is available below as well as at trailhead kiosks. Students in Construction Management have built and donated the trailhead kiosks as well as benches along the trail. Students in Civil Engineering have worked on various facets of project management.
This was a log-crossing bridge located near the beginning of the trail before Grounds crew undertook replacing it.
