A-B Tech Online - Help for Instructors Teaching Courses with High School Students

If your course enrollments include High school students, you may find the folowing material helpful:

  • Course sections with High School students are expected to meet the same standards as all course sections.
  • Be sure to provide full contact information and provide clear expectations regarding due dates, communications and engagement. Let students know your expected turnaround times with regard to email, phone and grading.
  • In addition to your own contact information, include the contact information of the appropriate High School facilitator(s).
  • When you place course announcements or deliver other significant course-related information to your students, be sure to email the appropriate High School facilitator(s) so thay they are fully informed.
  • Follow the guidelines and best practices in the Essential Requirements and How To’s for EVERY Course with Online Content document. This short document includes specific references to courses with High School students.
  • Encourage your students to maintain good communications. High school students especially may be reluctant to contact you with questions or concerns unless encouraged to do so.
  • Consider ways to "humanize" your course by providing a picture or short video of yourself by way of introduction, and by the tone of your messages, instructions, and announcements.
