Student Business Incubator Program Important Dates

Dates for the 2009-2010 Program

The Student Business Incubator application process takes several months and may include up to three interviews. The application deadline for the 2009-10 program is Friday, February 27, 2009, 4:30 PM.

Annual Application Process

The Student Business Incubator program is a 12-month extracurricular activity which follows the academic calendar (July – June of each year). The deadline for applications is always the last Friday in February. Students then begin a four-month application/interview process which is detailed below.

Stage I:

  • Stage I interviews will be on Friday, March 13, 2009
  • Interested students complete an application and executive summary of their business idea or current business and return to the Small Business Center director
  • Applicants will have a 10-minute interview describing their business or business idea and why they believe this will be successful. Students are not required to use a PowerPoint presentation, but can elect to do so if they wish.
  • After first stage interviews, semi-finalists will be selected to move to the State II of the application process

Stage II:

  • Stage II interviews will be on Friday, May 1, 2009
  • Semi-finalists will attend two mandatory business planning workshops and begin working on their business plan
  • Semi-finalists will be required to meet with 1-2 members of the Small Business Center Professional Services Office
  • Semi-finalists will be required to meet individually with the Small Business Center director for a minimum of one-hour
  • Semi-finalists will have a 10-minute interview. Student MUST create a PowerPoint presentation for this interview and submit their business plan prior to their interview.
  • Finalists will be selected to move to Stage III of the application process

Stage III:

  • Stage III interviews will be Friday, May 22, 2009
  • Finalists will continue to refine business plan and prepare for final interviews
  • Business Plans will be due one week prior to final interviews
  • Finalists will prepare/refine a PowerPoint presentation for a 15-minute interview with the Student Business Incubator Program Selection Committee
