2009 State of the Incubator Reception

On June 3, A-B Tech's Center for Business and Technology Incubation hosted its second annual State of the Incubator reception. This event was an opportunity to showcase current Incubator tenants and share many success stories. Per Russ Yelton, Executive Director, Entrepreneurial Ventures and Business Incubation, the businesses in the Incubator program collectively generated $12.7 million in revenue for 2007 and 2008 and paid an average annual wage of $31,000 to employees. In addition, even as the recession deepened during the first quarter of 2009, the companies in the Incubator program created 24 full-time jobs.

2008 State of the Incubator Luncheon
Highlights Successes

A-B Tech’s Small Business Center/Business Incubator held its first State of the Incubator Luncheon on Friday, May 9, 2008. The event began with opening remarks by A-B Tech President Dr. Betty Young and Nathan Ramsey, Chairman of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. Both Dr. Young and Chairman Ramsey praised the Business Incubator for an excellent year.

Russ Yelton, Executive Director of Entrepreneurial Ventures and Business Incubation said he was very pleased with the event. “The State of the Incubator Luncheon was a great opportunity to showcase the outstanding performance of our internal clients here at the Business Incubator and to demonstrate their economic impact to our community,” Yelton said. In addition, one example of the Business Incubator’s impact on the community is that in 2007, Business Incubator tenants collectively generated over $4 million in sales and created 50 jobs within our community.
