Stand Against Racism

April 16, 2014

A-B Tech and its partner, the YWCA, and sponsors (City of Asheville, MAHEC, and UNCA) have joined forces to host the 2014 Stand Against Racism Event from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 28 in Ferguson Auditorium. This initiative brings people together to raise awareness that racism still exists and can no longer be ignored or tolerated. In Buncombe County, approximately 5,000 people and 99 organizations participate in the Stand Against Racism events.

Activities will include:

• A community progress report

• A panel discussion moderated by Sarah Nuñez and panelists will include Gene Bell, Terry Bellamy, Althea Gonzalez, Beth Maczka, and James Lee

• Professional development opportunities, including recognizing unconscious bias, navigating social norms, best hiring practices, preparing for an interview, and much more

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required.  To register visit www.abtech.edu/stand.

Registrants will receive an email with a personalized schedule. They will need to print and bring the schedule with them as their ticket to the event.  Public Housing residents will receive community service hours for participating.
