The Alpha Upsilon Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at A-B Tech won 24 regional awards during the Carolinas Region Annual Hallmark Awards Convention March 18-20 in Clemmons. The College’s chapter of the international honor society for two-year colleges also helped host the convention.
Member Virginia West received a Distinguished Member Award, while members Mary Ann Duran and Kelley Canaday received Distinguished Officer awards. Advisors Lisa York and Yesho Atil won Distinguished Advisor awards. Kenet Adamson received a Distinguished Administrator Award
“These honors demonstrate the excellence of our Phi Theta Kappa chapter,” said A-B Tech’s Vice President of Student Services Dennis King. “We are all very proud of our fine students and advisors.”
Students also won awards for their yearly Honors in Action project, chapter web site, regional Honors in Action project, and Four Gig Challenge. The chapter also won two of the most prestigious awards – an award for Distinguished Chapter and an award as First Runner-up Most Distinguished Chapter, making them eligible for several awards at the International level in April.
Students with 12 credit hours and a GPA of at least 3.5 are invited to join the organization. New Member orientations will be at 3:30 p.m. March 25 and at 4 p.m. April 5. Both sessions will be in the Simpson Lecture Hall on the College’s Asheville campus.
