Mayer of Charlotte Street Computers to speak at GED ceremony
May 23, 2012
Jennifer Mayer, co-owner of Charlotte Street Computers, will be the community speaker at A-B Tech’s annual GED recognition ceremony at 7 p.m. June 7 in Ferguson Auditorium on the Asheville campus.
Mayer earned her GED from A-B Tech and transferred to UNC Asheville to earn her BA in Psychology. She began her affiliation with Charlotte Street Computers in 2004, and has been instrumental in the subsequent growth and success that it has attained since.
Her business achievements have been well-received and recognized by a number of local and national awards, including the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business Leader of the Year Award in 2008, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Diamond Award for Outstanding Achievement in Business in 2007. Jennifer was also nominated for the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Athena Award in 2008, recognizing women who have attained the highest level of professional excellence in the community.
More than 350 students who earned their GEDs in the past year are eligible to participate in the ceremony. In addition, several GED graduates and College Bridge Scholarship recipients will offer reflections on their experience and words of inspiration to the audience.
A-B Tech offers the General Educational Development (GED) diploma, which requires students to pass tests in five subject areas – writing skills, social studies, reading, math, and science. Students who pass the tests earn a GED awarded by the North Carolina Community College System.
