Drama production All in the Timing on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1

November 19, 2012

A-B Tech Community College and the A-B Tech Drama Club announce production dates for the company’s 15th production, All in the Timing. The production is directed by A-B Tech student Tab Merkel and features an all-student cast and crew.

The show will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1 in the Carriage House Theatre behind Fernihurst on the College’s Asheville campus. Tickets are available at the door and are $3 for A-B Tech students and staff, $5 for area students and $10 for adults. The production will consist of the following pieces:

  • Sure Thing: A man and a woman meet for the first time in a cafe, where they have an awkward meeting continually reset each time they say the wrong thing, until, finally, they romantically connect.
  • Words, Words, Words: Three chimpanzees, named after famous authors and expected to write Hamlet, for the most part waste time engaging in pointless banter, while occasionally inspired to make grandiose literary allusions.
  • The Universal Language: A man welcomes a naïve woman into his fraudulent language-learning course, in which he only speaks the invented language Unamunda.
  • The Philadelphia: At a restaurant, a man is informed by a friend that his frustratingly unlucky day is the result of his ensnarement in an anomalous pocket of reality, called a "Philadelphia," in which he will only be fulfilled by asking for the opposites of what he wants.
  • Variations on the Death of Trotsky: In comic fashion, revolutionary Leon Trotsky dies over and over again from a mountain-climber's axe-wound received many hours prior.

The student cast includes Jeff Alexander, Rick Best, Kati Boyd, Kye Brearley, Sean Bruce, Aaron Green, Hayley Karbowski, McKenzie King, Stacie Sexton, John Shagren and Victoria Trout.  The A-B Tech Drama Club was founded in 2003 to encourage students to participate in drama at the community’s college.  A-B Tech now offers an AFA in Drama and such classes as Acting I and II, Acting for the Camera, Storytelling, Stagecraft, Play Production, and Stage Makeup.
