The Western North Carolina Historical Association will continue its series Civil War Comes to the Mountains with a lecture by Dr. Darin J. Waters titled Slavery in Western North Carolina.
Co-sponsored by the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement and A-B Tech, the lecture will be held at 2 p.m. May 5 in the Simpson Lecture on the A-B Tech Asheville campus.
The event is open to the public and is free to WNC Historical Association members. A $5 donation is suggested for non-members. Reservations may be made by calling 828-253-9231 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org but are not required.
The "Civil War Comes to the Mountains" series was developed by WNC Historical Association to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Richard Graham, WNCHA board member, said "We are fortunate to have both the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement and A-B Tech Community College supporting this continuing series, particularly in presenting such a dynamic speaker as Darin Waters."
The two remaining lectures in the "Civil War Comes to the Mountains" series will be held on June 9 and Sept. 8.
