Building Construction Science diploma added to A-B Tech curriculum
May 21, 2012
A-B Tech Community College will offer a new one-year diploma program in Building Construction Science starting in the fall semester to address growing needs in the building industry.
“This new and innovative program addresses the need for re-training for high-performance building and energy efficiency,” said Heath Moody, A-B Tech’s Construction Management Technology Chair. “Building Construction Science better aligns with the training needs of the industry and four-year college programs.”
Credits earned in the diploma program can be applied toward a Construction Management Technology associate degree.
The program focuses on hands-on projects and activities to teach students about energy-efficient construction materials and methods associated with high-performance buildings. Students will learn advanced framing methods and other alternative building techniques associated with green building.
Students will also learn energy auditing techniques and software associated with building energy analysis. “As the construction industry reinvents itself around more sustainable building concepts, the Building Construction Science Program at A-B Tech is the ‘go-to’ place for training and re-training for a new era of construction,” Moody said.
Fall classes begin Aug. 20. Register at abtech.edu
