Duke Energy awards $195,000 to Asheville-Buncombe Tech

Highland Brewing Founder Oscar Wong with Lee McElrath of PSNC Energy tour the A-B Tech CBI facilities.

Duke Energy and A-B Tech Community College announced a $195,000 investment from the Duke Energy Foundation.

The funds will be used to further develop A-B Tech’s Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast by leveraging funds to purchase a seven-barrel brewhouse, a distillation system, wine making system and sensory lab.

Plant Sale on Campus

The A-B Tech Biology Department is pleased to announce the 7th annual Sara R. Gnilka Memorial Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 2 on the lawn of the Sycamore Building.

*An amazing selection of bedding plants, including vegetables, flowers, herbs!

*All Proceeds go directly to A-B Tech Scholarship and Arboretum Funds.  Last year we raised $6,000!

Stand Against Racism

A-B Tech and its partner, the YWCA, and sponsors (City of Asheville, MAHEC, and UNCA) have joined forces to host the 2014 Stand Against Racism Event from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 28 in Ferguson Auditorium. This initiative brings people together to raise awareness that racism still exists and can no longer be ignored or tolerated.

Students recognized for academic achievements

A-B Tech Community College honored outstanding students during its Academic Awards Ceremony April 8 in Ferguson Auditorium.

Radiology student Kris Riddle received the Academic Excellence Award from the North Carolina Community College System. His award was presented by Candler Willis, a member of the state board of community colleges.

Civil Engineering and Surveying revamped at A-B Tech

A-B Tech student Brannon Honeycutt recently enrolled in the Civil Engineering program.

The Engineering and Applied Technology Division at A-B Tech Community College announced that Civil Engineering Technology and Geomatics Technology programs will be offered in Fall 2014. Both programs have been enhanced based on input from area employers.
