Fowler Joins A-B Tech Board of Trustees

Mary Ruth Fowler of Hot Springs has been appointed to the A-B Tech Board of Trustees by the Madison County Commissioners. She will replace Owen Tilson, who died Aug. 22.

New members were inducted into A-B Tech's Alpha Upsilon Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges, during a ceremony in Ferguson Auditorium Nov. 8. The A-B Tech Chapter was established in 1991. Dr. Dennis King, Student Services vice president, was presented with an honorary membership in acknowledgement of his support of the chapter. Fifty-six students joined the organization this semester. Membership is based on completion of 12 hours and a GPA of at least 3.5.

Ken Czarnomski, Construction Management Technology chair, and Anita Metcalf, vice president of College Relations, look at the plans for the modular house A-B Tech students are building at the Colbond warehouse near the Enka campus. The house will be sold to Neighborhood Housing Services. The houses are not only affordable, but will meet the requirements for WNC Green Council's Healthy Built Homes Program. They will also be constructed from sustainable materials. The first unit is expected to be complete by summer.

A-B Tech received an Achievement Award from the Western North Carolina Historical Association (WNCHA) and Smith-McDowell House Museum during the organization's 53rd annual meeting Oct. 12 in the Magnolia Building on the College's Asheville campus.
