Summary of Full-Time Employee Benefits
Health Insurance: Full-time employees are eligible to participate in the North Carolina State Health Plan. Options include major medical coverage and two preferred provider options, at no charge to the employee. A third PPO option is available for purchase. Dependent coverage is available at group rates and premiums will be payroll deducted on a pre-tax basis. Coverage is through the State Health Plan. www.statehealthplan.state.nc.us
Dental Insurance: The college provides dental insurance to all full-time employees at no charge. Dependent coverage is available at group rates and premiums will be deducted on a pre-tax basis. www.guardianlife.com
Life Insurance: Basic life insurance in the amount of two-times annual wages is provided at no cost to all full-time employees. Optional amounts of life insurance for employees and dependents are available for purchase at group rates.
Retirement: - Retirement benefits are provided through the North Carolina Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System. All full-time and positions classified as 30 hours per week are required to participate. Employee contribution is tax deferred. Vesting (the right to a monthly income benefit) occurs after five years of creditable service. Some benefits of North Carolina Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System are: Disability Income Plan (short-term disability), Disability Retirement (long-term disability) and Death Benefit. www.myncretirement.com
- Disability Income Plan: - An employee must be contributing to the retirement system for at least one year. A 60-day waiting period is required. Short-term disability benefit is 50 percent of monthly salary up to a maximum of $3,000 per month and pays for 365 days.
- Disability Retirement: - An employee is eligible after five years contributory service if the employee becomes totally and permanently disabled for work. During the first 36 months of disability, the plan benefit is 65 percent of salary up to $3,900 per month.
- Death Benefit: - Death benefit equal to highest 12 months salary in previous 24 months with a minimum of $25,000 and a maximum of $50,000 if employee dies after one year of contributing service.
Flex 25 Plan: The college will provide each full-time employee with a monthly benefit of $25 to be applied as follows:
- As a contribution to one of the tax-sheltered plans 401(k), 403(b) or 457.
- Toward the premium cost of dependent health insurance.
- Toward the premium cost of dependent dental insurance.
- As a cash payment to be included in regular wages.
Longevity Pay: - Permanent full-time and permanent part-time employees who have completed at least 10 years of total state service shall receive a lump sum payment annually.

Longevity payments are paid at the end of the anniversary month.
Tax Sheltered Annuities:- 403B and 401K (optional) The college retains the services of a certified financial planner to assist employees in financial planning and selection of appropriate investment products. There are several carriers on the approved list offering a variety of programs.
Supplemental Insurance and Section 125 Cafeteria Plan (optional): Various employee paid policies covering cancer, accidents, and disabilities are available. Medical and dependent care reimbursement plans are also available. These may be pre-taxed through payroll deduction.

Sick Leave: Regular full-time employees earn sick leave at a rate of one day per contract month. Sick leave is cumulative indefinitely and may be credited toward retirement service.
Civil Leave: Employees are entitled to leave with pay to serve on a jury or if summoned to serve as a witness for the court. Employees are entitled to receive compensation from the court for such duty.
Funeral Leave: Employees are entitled to three days of leave with pay for a death in the immediate family. Additional days must be charged to annual leave or taken without pay.
Holidays: The college observes the following holidays per year:

- Easter (1 day)
- Independence Day (1 day)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving (2 days)
- Christmas (7 days)
Employee Assistance Program: The college has prepaid the cost of five diagnostic referral and counseling sessions for employees or their immediate family members with the Employee Assistance Network. www.eannc.com
State Employees' Credit Union: Membership in the State Employees Credit Union is open to all full-time and part-time employees. Services include banking, savings and loans. More information may be obtained by visiting one of the local offices or www.ncsecu.org
Educational Opportunities: Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in one curriculum or continuing education course per semester on a tuition-free basis when it will not interfere with scheduled work hours.
Parking: All employees are provided with parking registration free of charge.
