Meet Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Funding for A-B Tech Foundation scholarships comes from a variety of sources. The 29 students featured this month represent the Lavender Fund Scholarship, awarded for the 2008-09 academic year.

Carol Aho

Carol Aho is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "My intention is to become a middle school teacher in math or special education," she said. Carol is interested in gardening, reading, cooking and being with her two children.

 
Melanie Ashe

Melanie Ashe

Melanie Ashe is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "I plan to work at a local hospital and pursue my Bachelor of Science Nursing degree," she said. Melanie likes to play with her children and animals and enjoys gardening.

 
Andrea Carter

Andrea Carter

Andrea Carter is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I plan to transfer to Western Carolina for the bachelor's degree in nursing," she said. Andrea enjoys traveling, gardening and collecting music, and visiting art galleries.

Bruce Clark

Bruce Clark is enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program. "My long-term goal is to start my own business," he said. Bruce is interested in building furniture, playing guitar and doing projects for his elderly neighbors.

 

Amelie Delaunay-Vanda is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I would like to get a master's degree in art therapy," she said. Amelie is interested in art, mental/physical illnesses, world religion and extreme sports.

Jennifer Franklin is enrolled in the Radiography program. "I would like to become a radiographer," she said. Jennifer enjoys spending time with her 10-year-old daughter and her triplet boys.

Naomi Gamble is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "I plan to continue working at the hospital in the critical care unit," she said. Naomi enjoys raising her three-year-old son, and enjoys walks to the park with him.

Shannie Hagen is enrolled in the General Occupational Technology program. "My career plan is to graduate with my Medical Office Administration diploma," she said. Shannie likes to spend as much time as she can with her three children.

Beth Hahn is enrolled in the Marketing and Retailing program. "A long-term goal is to create a non-profit organization to support adult students both monetarily and materially," she said. Beth enjoys reading, writing and antiquing.

Jennifer Hinson is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "I would really enjoy working in labor and delivery if possible," she said. Jennifer enjoys the outdoors, nature walks, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Amanda Lane is enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts program. "I hope to grow in my field and become more specialized in the pastry field," she said. Amanda loves to dance, has deep passion for cooking and does mosaic and tile work.

Horace Mazyck is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I will transfer to Western Carolina and get my degree in social work," he said. Horace is interested in music, sports, community service work and hiking.

Jammie McHone is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Technology program. "I want obtain a bachelor's degree in sociology to work with deprived juveniles in the court system," she said. Jammie spends her free time with her three sons.

Crystal Moody is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I am planning to become an elementary school teacher," she said. Crystal likes to read, ride horses and play with her son.

Crystal Moore is enrolled in the Veterinary Medical Technology program. "I plan to transfer to get a degree in community college teaching," she said. Crystal enjoys jewelry making, crafts, pets, and spending time with her family.

Angelina Nava is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "After graduation, I plan to transfer to study architecture," she said. Angelina loves being outdoors, and enjoys hiking, swimming and playing soccer.

Jennifer Noble is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I plan to attend UNCA and then law school. My goal is to help Native Americans in need of legal aid," she said. Jennifer enjoys fishing and being outdoors with her family.

Sonia Nunez is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Technology program. "I am looking for a job to help out children after graduation," she said. Sonia enjoys spending time with her five-year-old son.

Stacy Prieur is enrolled in the Radiography program. "I would like to work as an X-ray technician at Mission Hospital after graduation," she said. Stacy likes to draw and read.

Kayla Quinn is enrolled in the Veterinary Medical Technology program. "I would like to earn my degree in Veterinarian Medical Technology," she said. Kayla enjoys working with animals and spending time with her son.

Sonya Richardson is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Technology program. "I plan to work in law enforcement in Atlanta," she said. Sonya is a singer/songwriter and enjoys reading.

Jean Saltz is enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. "I want to complete and receive my LPN degree," she said. Jean loves to spend time with her family, and enjoys the work she does with the VFW. Her lifetime hobby is horseback riding.

Cynthia Sexton is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "I want to obtain my RN license, then work on my BSN degree," she said. Cynthia enjoys spending time with family and friends during cookouts.

Dana Smith is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I would like to work in chiropractic in Hispanic communities," she said. Dana enjoys softball, photography, sailing, and any sport or activity her children are participating in.

Adrienne Stimson is enrolled in the Dental Assisting program. "I plan on finishing the dental assisting program and finding an office around town to work in," she said. Adrienne's interests include her daughter, art, music, people and nature.
