Funding for A-B Tech Foundation scholarships comes from a variety of sources. Thirteen students are featured this month representing three different scholarships awarded for the 2008-09 academic year.
Camellia Austin
Camellia Austin is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Endowment for Student Success Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program at A-B Tech. "I would like to earn my master's degree in midwifery," she wrote. Camellia's interests are babysitting, swimming, health and camping.
Kelly Hogan
Kelly Hogan is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Endowment for Student Success Scholarship and is enrolled in the Web Technologies program. "My current plans are to continue with my current job with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office and to move up into better positions as my education continues," she wrote. Kelly volunteers for a non-profit organization that sends comfort items to the troops overseas by creating and maintaining its website.
Ryan Coyle
Ryan Coyle is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "It is my plan to work for a year and gain experience before determining how to use nursing in the missionary field," he wrote. Ryan enjoys photography and traveling to new places.
Holly Newton
Holly Newton is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate in Arts program. "I want to continue working at Irene Wortham Center in a professional position, and perhaps become a social worker," she wrote. Holly enjoys hiking, swimming and spending time with her dogs.
Teresa Moery
Teresa Moery is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "After I graduate, I plan to transfer to Western Carolina to work toward a bachelor's degree in elementary education," she wrote. Teresa likes to read, watch movies, swim and hike.
Tammy Poole
Tammy Poole is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. "After graduation, I plan on continuing to work for Mission Hospital before traveling to Third World countries to help improve their health. At some point in the next few years I plan to get my BSN," she wrote. Tammy is interested in computers, dancing, learning new information, gaming, technology, camping and hiking.
Lorelei Scollin
Lorelei Scollin is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Radiography program. "I hope to work in the area at one of the many hospitals. I am working very part time at Mission, so maybe that will lead to a full-time position after graduation," she wrote. Lorelei loves playing with her son, gardening, reading, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Larissa Panferova
Larissa Panferova is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "After graduation, I plan to transfer to UNCA and major in accounting," she wrote. Larissa loves traveling and learning about different cultures. "It is very fascinating to me to meet new people and see new places," she wrote.
Brittney Wheeler
Brittney Wheeler is a recipient of a K. Ray Bailey Golf Classic Scholarship and is enrolled in the Associate in Arts Degree program. "I hope to obtain a job that allows me to travel and learn about other cultures. I am thinking about doing something in marketing," she wrote. Brittney loves to dance and is interested in fitness and nutrition.
Nicole Allen
Nicole Allen is a recipient of a Lacy T. Haith and James B. Miller Endowed Scholarship and is enrolled in the Human Services Technology/Social Services program. "I would like to become a substance abuse counselor," she wrote. Nicole loves to read when she has the time.
Jameral Wallace
Jameral Wallace is a recipient of a Lacy T. Haith and James B. Miller Endowed Scholarship and is enrolled in the Medical Assisting program. "I plan to enter the nursing program if I qualify," she wrote. Jameral loves to sing, spend time with her teens and their dog.
Michael Aanonse
Michael Aanonse is a recipient of a La Chaine des Rotisseurs Scholarship and is enrolled in the Culinary Arts program. "After school, I plan to take some time to travel the country to seek out new cooking ideas. I also would like to visit Spain to see the newest cooking trends," he wrote. Michael enjoys bread making at his house. His days off are spent near the oven.
Kitty Maynard
Kitty Maynard is a recipient of a La Chaine des Rotisseurs Scholarship and is enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts program. "I plan to open a bakery and cafe in the Asheville area," she wrote. Kitty's interests are orchards, baking, canning and writing.
