Art Museum Passes Available

Free Asheville Art Museum passes are available for employees and students. They can be reserved for up to a week in advance for a one-week checkout, based on availability. There is a limit of six passes per person. A set of 25 passes is also available for instructors to take a class. Contact Sue Donato at Ext. 7572 or sdonato@abtech.edu for more information.

Donato Receives Grant to Attend Conference

Sue Donato, Library Assistant, received a Career Enrichment grant of $750 from the State Library of North Carolina to attend the "Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition" Conference in Charleston, S.C., Nov. 5-8.

Trustee Performs Mountain Music

A-B Tech Trustee Richard Hurley performed traditional mountain music at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Aug. 1 in the first of a monthly series called Pickin' on the Porch.

Instructor's Garden Featured in Citizen-Times

Sylvia Elwyn, Continuing Education landscape design instructor, was interviewed for a story in the Asheville Citizen-Times about her and her husband Rich's rose garden in south Asheville. The feature was on the cover of the Home & Garden section Aug. 2 and was titled "Retirement is a rose garden."

Phi Theta Kappa Earns Kudos

Members of Phi Theta Kappa received a thank you note from MANNA Food Bank after the Project Graduation Food Drive. "We acknowledge with gratitude your generous donation in the amount of 275 pounds of food drive food, in support of the work we do," wrote Kitty Schaller, executive director of MANNA.

Howell Receives Praise from Student

Rebecca Howell, International Student Advisor/Student Success Advocate, received a compliment from a student after assisting her with registration. "I want to let you know that when I met you it was after 8 p.m. and you had been doing this all day," wrote student Laura Lavezzo. "You had been fielding a variety of questions and dealing with a bunch of different people, yet you maintained a level of professionalism that was astounding. You treated me as if I was the first person you met that day and that my questions and concerns were important."

Skeens and White Speak at Forum

Gea Skeens, Human Resources Development Coordinator, and Shelly White, Occupational and Public Service Training Executive Director, were speakers at the Three Days for Women forum Aug. 21-23 at the W.C. Reid Center for the Creative Arts. The focus of their session was educational opportunities for job seekers and career changers.
