Art Museum Passes Available

Free Asheville Art Museum passes are available for employees and students. They can be reserved for up to a week in advance for a one-week checkout, based on availability. There is a limit of six passes per person. A set of 25 passes are also available for instructors to take a class. Contact Sue Donato at Ext. 7572 or sdonato@abtech.edu for more information.

Correction

Getz Published and Miller Featured in Verve

Kirsten Getz, Financial Aid secretary/receptionist, had an article published in the July/August issue of "Verve," a regional Women's magazine. Her story "Ladies Who Relish Relics," centered on a women's antique club. Foundation Board Member Sabrina Miller was the subject of the "Advice You Can Take to the Bank" article in the same issue. An article on Asheville’s female firefighters, “Rescue Me,” featured Kelly Hinz, an assistant fire marshal, who received her training from A-B Tech.

Parkway Film Wins Award

"The Blue Ridge Parkway: America's Favorite Journey," a high-definition film produced for the new Blue Ridge Parkway Destination Center received the Platinum Best of Show Aurora Award. Communications Instructor Stephanie O'Brien was the line producer on the film, which shows daily on the hour and half hour.

Stanford Thanks College Family

Carol Stanford, Health & P.E. Chair/Wellness coordinator/Intramurals coordinator, had words of gratitude for members of the A-B Tech community after a successful blood drive July 15. "Yesterday's Red Cross Blood Drive was our biggest success on record for any summer. We had 49 people attempt to give, 47 productive pints from that number, and seven doubles," Stanford wrote in an e-mail. "You have no idea how important you are to our community." The next scheduled drive will be Oct. 24.

Employees Compete in Triathlon

Three A-B Tech employees competed in the first Asheville Triathlon July 20 at Recreation Park, which consisted of a 400-meter swim in the pool, 11.6 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run. Stephen Maag, Early College Liaison/Student Success Advocate, won the Masters Clydesdales division and finished 44th overall among 123 men of all ages. The Awesome Adamson team finished second among relays and consisted of Kenet Adamson, Arts and Sciences dean, swimming; Tanner Adamson, 17, biking; and Davis Adamson, 13, running. They finished 61st overall among men. Liz Atkinson, Student Success Advocate/recruiter, competing in her first triathlon, finished sixth in her age group and 68 among 123 women.
