Free Asheville Art Museum passes are available for employees and students. They can be reserved for up to a week in advance for a one-week check out, based on availability. There is a limit of six passes per person. A set of 25 passes are also available for instructors to take a class.

Jennifer Browning, English/Communications instructor, has been awarded a $250 grant from the Candy Fund, a scholarship established in 2006 under the umbrella of Western Carolina Coalition for Social Concerns for women writers in the Western North Carolina. The grant will allow her to attend a writing retreat so she can focus on completing the final draft of her first novel.
Christina Burns, a graduate of the Early Childhood Associate program, recently received her master's degree in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Chief Greg Grayson of the Asheville Fire and Rescue Department sent an e-mail to Skye Myrick, associate dean, Emergency Services Academy, to thank the College for its participation in the Vehicle Injury Prevention program at Asheville High School. "It was fantastic to see all the different educational and public safety agencies come together to provide such a significant program to our youth," he wrote.
Stephen Maag, Early College liaison/Student Success Advocate, and Kenet Adamson, Arts and Sciences dean, competed in the Enka Triathlon at Biltmore Lake June 14. The sprint triathlon consisted of a 750-yard swim, 17.5 miles of biking and a 3.1-mile run. Maag placed first in the Master Clydesdale division for athletes over the age of 40 and weighing more than 200 pounds. Adamson took seventh place in the division. Adamson's 16-year-old son Tanner placed third in his age group.
Lloyd Weinberg, Service-Learning coordinator, has been appointed to the North Carolina Community College System Service-Learning advisory board. A-B Tech has the highest Service-Learning participation in the system for the second year in a row.
A-B Tech Trustee Richard Hurley and Catherine Ball of the Academic Learning Center participated in the Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site's program "In the Good Ole' Summertime, 1916" where they portrayed boarders of the home in a living history program.
