Sheila Carter, chairperson of the Asheville-Buncombe-Madison Transition Council, sent a letter of appreciation for the use of Ferguson Auditorium for its annual Employability Seminar. "This sixth annual event was even better this year because of all the space A-B Tech allowed us to use. It was all so perfect, both location and environment," she wrote. Carter also acknowledged the following staff members who provided assistance: Kay Manley, Adult Basic Skills/HRD executive director; Hoot Gibson, Security/Safety director; Sterling Lawrence, Educational Technology Services technician; Randy Rose, Plant Operations associate director; and Tom Rash, Compensatory Education coordinator.
The A-B Tech Chapter of the Association of Education Office Professionals raised $3,862 for 2007, which puts it over the goal of $10,000 to endow a scholarship for the A-B Tech Foundation. The chapter will continue to raise funds for scholarships through its Holiday Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Ferguson Auditorium lobby.
A-B Tech was the number four top-performing school in the nation for Ed2Go in October. Congratulations to the Continuing Education Computer and Technology Training Department.
Kevin Fletcher, Automotive Service Technology instructor, was named the August Invitational Award winner, while Tammy Ward, Library assistant, earned the September honors. William "Big Will" Rucker from Plant Operations was the most recent honoree, receiving the October award.
Nominations for the Invitational Award may be dropped in any student suggestion box or sent in the campus mail to Elizabeth Scarbrough. The nominations are due by the last day of each month.
Forms are available online as well as by the student suggestion boxes, Records and Registration, the Business Office, the LRC, and the division offices. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate individuals for the award.
Due to the upcoming holiday break, the deadline for submissions to Tech Talk will be Dec. 8.
Richard Babb, a Continuing Education photography instructor since 1995, received a note of thanks from a student. "I cannot believe how much I learned," Marcia Bosworth wrote. "The class photo shoots were particularly helpful and enjoyable. You amaze me with your versatile knowledge about all the different cameras we brought to class. I look forward to taking your intermediate class."
Sam Brubaker, a Digital Media Technology student, won best original animation short in an international competition in the Fifth Blender 3D conference. He started taking classes at A-B Tech this past summer, and is currently taking a class as a dual enrolled student. "Jonathan Ross (Business Computer Technologies instructor) should be commended for the outstanding job he does in preparing the students to use the new and difficult technology," Pam Silvers, Business Computer Technologies chair, said.
