Ed2Go Ranking

A-B Tech was the number four top-performing school in the nation for Ed2Go in September. Kudos go to the Continuing Education Computer and Technology Training Department.

Gratitude for Day

Students in Michelle Day's ESL classes wrote and signed a note to thank her for "very, very excellent teaching," and sent the note to Jennifer Hill, ESL coordinator, and Kay Manley, Adult Basic Skills/HRD director.

Hast Happy to Teach

Kathryn Hast, Arts and Sciences adjunct instructor, sent a note of appreciation to President K. Ray Bailey for the opportunity to teach at A-B Tech. "I was fortunate enough to pick up four classes, so I've gained a broad understanding for the variety of students, whom in many cases have dedicated themselves to their educations in addition to their family and jobs," she wrote. "Working with the faculty, too, has proved fruitful - Ellen Perry, (English/Communications chair) especially has been a marvelous chair to work under. I feel so fortunate to work here."

Invitational Awards

Nominations for the Invitational Award may be dropped in any student suggestion box or sent in the campus mail to Elizabeth Scarbrough. The nominations are due by the 15th of each month and will be awarded on the last working day of the month.

Forms are available online as well as by the student suggestion boxes, Records and Registration, the Business Office, the LRC, and the division offices. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate individuals for the award.

Jump Start Thanks

Raye Rufty, owner of At Your Service Custom Concierge, sent a note of appreciation to Jill Sparks, Small Business Center and Business Incubator assistant director, after the Jump Start Your Business event. "I saw it as a great success. Please tell all those involved that from a table holder's perspective it was so well done - professional, loads of energy and excitement and great information for all who participated," she wrote.

Academic Learning Center Appreciation

Former student Charity McClure wrote a letter of appreciation for Sharon Killian, Learning Center Coordinator, and the Academic Learning Center staff for helping her complete the prerequisites for nursing school. "I am now a graduate of the second degree nursing program at George Mason University and will begin my career next month in the intensive care unit at George Washington University Hospital," she wrote. "I literally would not have been able to accomplish this without the patience and assistance of the Academic Learning Center."

Praise For Schmid

Student Tammy Wilson sent a letter of praise for Marilyn Schmid, Administrative/Medical Systems Instructor, for the help she received. "She helped give me the confidence I needed after starting back to school after being out of school for 20 years," Wilson wrote. "I just wanted to let you know how Mrs. Schmid went way beyond her duty and how much she has helped me in my confidence and helping me to keep my job. Words could not express how much she has helped me."

Radiography Success

A-B Tech's 18 Radiography graduates had a 100 percent pass rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam with an average scaled score of 91.9. The highest average score achieved by any graduating class from A-B Tech, it compares to national averages of around 84.

Thanks from a Student

HRD Instructor Terri Sizemore received good news from Jeanne Grooms, a student at Goodwill. "I went today; filled out the application, had an interview and got hired," Grooms wrote. "I said to them exactly what you said yesterday. Thank you so much." Grooms had also been served by Gea Skeens through the WIA case management.
