SimMan Grant

President K. Ray Bailey listens to the heartbeat of a SimBaby during the announcement of a Duke Endowment grant of $395,760 to establish a simulation technology laboratory for nursing and allied health education to be housed at A-B Tech's Enka Site. The lab will allow nursing students to learn lifesaving skills on medical mannequins that provide instant feedback and a risk-free way to practice. Scheduled to open in mid-2006, the lab is being developed through a partnership between the College, Mission Hospitals, and Western Carolina University. Standing with President Bailey, from left are Mary Piepenbring, director of the Health Care Division of The Duke Endowment; Chancellor John Bardo of Western Carolina University; a representative from Laerdal Medical Technology; and Joseph Damore, President and CEO of Mission Hospitals.

Hospitality Education Benefit

Guests enjoyed fine food and wine at the Hospitality Education Department's benefit, "An Evening With Mark Rosenstein," Sept. 25 at the Market Place Restaurant. Rosenstein, the owner and executive chef for the Market Place, prepared a five-course menu, featuring locally grown foods. Participants liked the evening so much, they suggested to make it an annual event. "The Hospitality Education fundraiser, An Evening with Mark Rosenstein, was a tremendous success at every level. Guests came...ready for an evening of good food and conversation and seemed delighted to be supporting the Hospitality Education Department and College," said Hospitality Education Chair Sheila Tillman.
