Cotter Speaks at Cornerstone

Dianne Cotter, Veterinary Medical Technology chair, made a presentation for Caring for Children at Cornerstone in West Asheville, a group home for young women. She spoke about the College and her program.

Culinary Team Featured in Sizzle

The American Culinary Federation's quarterly for students of cooking, Sizzle, published a story on A-B Tech's Culinary Team in its Fall 2007 issue. The story highlighted the team's win during the ACF's Student Team National Championship, and featured a question and answer session with one of the coaches, Bronwen McCormick, Culinary/Hospitality chair.

Dechant Commended for Presentation

Tom Dechant, Learning Resources dean, made a presentation to Leadership Asheville Seniors (LAS), and received some positive feedback from Denise Snodgrass, LAS director. "Your talk was outstanding," she wrote. "Each time I hear you I learn more information. The participants appreciated the 'overview immersion' that you presented of the region."

Goodstadt Invited to Round Table

Randee Goodstadt, Social/Behavioral Sciences chair, has been invited to sit on the 2008 Oxford Round Table, Women in the Modern World: The Struggle for Equality. The colloquium will be held at the University of Oxford in England, and will examine the prerequisites for enchantment of the power of women. Membership is limited to 40 persons each year.

Instructor Selected for Town Meetings

Dr. Deborah Louis, adjunct instructor, was selected to participate in a series of online town meetings about the nature of citizenship and political institutions hosted by the PBS/News Hour with Jim Lehrer and Stanford University. They were conducted by PollingPoint.com Wednesdays in October.

Louis has been teaching online courses in political science, criminal justice, and women's students for the past several years at A-B Tech, the University of South Carolina-Upstate and Eastern Kentucky University.

Student Gratitude

Jeff Erksa wrote a note of thanks to Billy Wells, Air Conditioning chair, and Keith Lewis, adjunct instructor, for their role in his education. "The education that I received from A-B Tech has helped me everyday in my current position as a power plant operator," he wrote. "I have to say a special thanks ... for the step up I have at my job."
