Kenet Adamson, Arts and Sciences dean, received a letter from Jim Robinson, associate dean of Mars Hill College's Adult ACCESS program, thanking him for allowing Mars Hill to use A-B Tech's facilities for ACCESS classes. "Your staff is unsurpassed in providing the utmost in care and service to our instructors and students," he wrote. "We could not possibly ask for more. I just wish all of our off-campus sites were as welcoming, state-of-the-art, and hospitable as A-B Tech."
Brian McDonald, former Hospitality Education instructor, sent a note of congratulations to A-B Tech's national award-winning culinary team. "I'm so proud of what you all have accomplished. I know you earned every bit of this recognition," he wrote. "All those years of knocking on the door have finally paid off and netted this tremendous honor." McDonald, chef instructor at Bellingham Technical College in Washington, coached the A-B Tech Culinary knowledge bowl team to a regional first-place win in 2003.
A-B Tech was the number 13 top-performing school in the nation for Ed2Go for the session starting July 18. Congratulations to the Continuing Education Computer and Technology Training Department.
Randee Goodstadt, Social and Behavioral Sciences chair, was elected treasurer for the Center for Jewish Studies board for 2007-08 at UNC Asheville.
Tim Thomas, a 1988 culinary graduate, was crowned the King of American Seafood in New Orleans after competing in the Great American Seafood Cookoff. Thomas, the executive chef for Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, GA, won first place for his dish of Georgia shrimp ratatouille with boursin cheese grits. Thomas placed third in the competition in 2006.
Lewis Lightner, Networking Technologies chair, has been nominated for an Education Recognition Award for his participation in the Networking Academy. As part of the celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Cisco Networking Academy is honoring the achievements of individuals, academies and organizations that have helped make the program successful or who have taken the education and applied it in diverse industries.
A-B Tech's masonry class was recognized in the Asheville Citizen-Times Aug. 2 edition for building a sign identifying the historic neighborhood of Enka Village.
