National Arts in Education Week at A-B Tech

A-B Tech’s Fine and Performing Art Department has scheduled several events for National Arts in Education Week, Sept. 12-18. All programs are free, open to the public and on the College’s Asheville campus.

The Art Department will open its first Faculty Show in Holly Library Sept 13, with an opening reception at noon Sept. 15.

Photography instructor Lynette Miller will do a 15-minute presentation on the camera obscura and pinhole photography at 3 p.m. Sept. 15 in Sycamore 303, followed by a demonstration of how they work by transforming the room into a camera obscura. The camera obscura is an optical device that projects an image of its surroundings on a screen.

A series of films on art will be shown Sept. 15 in Ferguson Auditorium starting at 10 a.m. with “art:21 – Art in the Twenty-First Century”; “Girl with a Pearl Earring” will be at noon; followed by “Frida” at 2 p.m.

At noon on Sept. 17, the A-B Tech chorus and Drama club will perform on the Beech Tree Deck during the Student Fall Festival.
