Radiography Program Mission, Goals And Outcomes

Program Mission

The mission of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech) Radiography Program is to provide the clinical and didactic education necessary to develop competent entry-level radiographers for the healthcare industry located in Western North Carolina.

Program Goals and Outcomes

1. Graduates of the program will be employable and meet the needs of the healthcare community.

Program Outcomes:

• Graduates will pass the ARRT exam on the first attempt. 
• Students will complete the program. 
• Graduates will obtain employment.
• Employers will be satisfied with the program. 
• Graduates will be satisfied with the program.

2. Students will utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills during clinical assignments.
• Students will use proper written and oral communication skills during didactic assignments.

3. Students will demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills in the performance of radiographic procedures.

Student Learning Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the clinical setting.
• Students will demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the didactic setting.

4. Students will demonstrate professional growth and development by practicing the professional code of ethics and complying with the profession’s scope of practice.

• Students will understand the importance of professional development.
• Students will demonstrate professional behaviors.

5. Students will demonstrate clinical competence by performing a full range of radiologic procedures on all patient populations.

Student Learning Outcomes: 

• Students will provide appropriate patient care.
• Students will position the patient and imaging equipment. Students will practice appropriate radiation safety principles.

Clinical Education Centers

The following facilities are used for directed clinical experience.  Students will rotate through the clinical affiliates for four-to-eight week rotations.  Some of these clinical sites may require an hour drive from campus. All hospital clinical affiliates participate voluntarily in hospital accreditation programs such as The Joint Commission (TJC), formerly known as the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), or their equivalent.
