In November, GE Aviation held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new composites plant in Asheville. A-B Tech is building a 5,000 square foot training center for GE Aviation on the Asheville campus. Through the state’s customized training program, A-B Tech will train current and prospective GE employees. The center will provide a hands-on environment complete with state-of-the-art machinery.

Kevin Kimrey, Director, Economic and Workforce Development, brings over 28 years of industry training and development experience to AB Tech. He served as Customized Training Services Director for Surry Community College in Dobson, NC. He managed customized training projects ranging from leadership and continuous improvement, to safety and technical training, and was certified as an ACT job Profiler.
James E. Lee III, Workforce Outreach Coordinator, brings to AB Tech a successful track record of developing partnerships with diverse community organizations and individuals that he began while working for the City of Asheville. James is a member of the Executive Leadership Institute and has a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Operations Management. He co-hosts a weekly show on WRES 100.7 FM Radio Station to discuss the different degrees, programs and services available at AB Tech. James sits on several non-profit boards, participates in various community activities and represents the college at a variety of events.
John Erwin, Workforce Outreach Coordinator, brings nearly thirty years of entrepreneurial, consulting and personal business coaching experience to AB Tech's Workforce Outreach Team. His own ventures spanned a variety of interests ranging from computer software development, to management consulting, training, and executive coaching, to real estate investment and residential construction. John is an alumni of Leadership Asheville 13.
Robert (Andy) McNeal, AB Tech's Aviation Composites Instructor, has 20 years experience working for the Air Force as an aircraft structural repair technician and supervisor. After retiring from the military, he taught aircraft manufacturing at Trident Technical College for the Boeing 787 project, and at Lenoir Community College. Andy will be lead instructor for AB Tech's new training center to prepare GE Aviation employees in the production of ceramic matrix composites.
