Occupational extension courses may not be taken more than twice within a five-year period without the student paying the full cost of the course as determined by the college. Students may repeat occupational extension courses more than once if the repetitions are required for certification, licensure, or recertification.
A course other than occupational extension may not be taken for more than two consecutive terms without a break of at least one term. Senior citizens who are legal residents of North Carolina and who wish to enroll in an occupational extension course, shall not be required to pay for taking the course twice. Students who are enrolled in Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED) preparation, or Compensatory Education classes may continue as long as reasonable educational and/or social progress is being made according to the goals of the program. Students in Compensatory Education classes will be reviewed after no more than two years to determine whether they will continue in the program. The college reserves the right to modify this policy in general or relative to a given course as necessary to meet the needs of the college and its students.
Tuition shall be waived for one course of noncredit instruction per academic semester (January 1- May 15; May16 - August 14; August 15 - December 31) for senior citizens who are 65 or older before the start date of the class and who are qualified as legal residents of North Carolina. Seniors are required to purchase insurance, textbooks, and supplies where applicable. There are not fee waivers for self-supporting courses (prefixes CSP and SEF).
Continuing education course offerings are designed for adult learners. In special cases, 16 and 17 year-olds will be considered when (1) there is available space in the class and (2) they obtain the required permissions and signatures on the College’s Minor Permission Form.
Because of the high cost of books, we only have students purchase textbooks when they are essential. Students should bring the book with them to the first class.
Textbooks can be purchased at the Asheville and Enka Site. Books are available at the Madison Site for classes scheduled at that campus only. Hours for each location are listed at http://www.abtech.edu/content/bookstore/welcome-a-b-tech-bookstore.
To find textbook information, you will need to know your course's Term (IE Winter, Spring, Fall etc.), 3 letter course label and 4 digit course (section) number - this information can be found in the continuing education schedule.

This schedule listing should not be considered a contract between Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and any student. Errors may occur in preparing for publication. Changes may be necessary for various reasons. A minimum enrollment may be required to offer a course or continue a sequence of courses. Tuition and fees are subject to change by the State Legislature. There may be changes in the class schedule for inclement weather. If changes are necessary, an effort will be made to inform the students who are preregistered or enrolled.

If you are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about your subject and can communicate to a variety of people, we would like to hear from you. Complete a Course Proposal for each class you are proposing to teach and email to Lynne Gabai: firstname.lastname@example.org. Do not mail in.
In the Event of Inclement Weather
The College will close when weather conditions are such that driving is hazardous. The following procedure will be observed for inclement weather conditions:
A message concerning school operation will be made by 5:30 a.m. and posted on the College website at abtech.edu, and announced on local radio and TV stations for day classes. A voice mail message will be recorded on the College switchboard. If the College is scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m., Continuing Education classes scheduled to begin prior to 10:00 a.m. will commence at 10:00 a.m. Continuing Education classes scheduled to begin after 10:00 a.m. will follow their regular schedule.
