What is ESTEAM?
ESTEAM is an annual series of local conference designed to increase young people’s interest in Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. These single gender events are taking the idea of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education a step further, encouraging participants to cultivate creative and independent thought processes to help them become the next generation of STEM innovators.
ESTEAM is a professional-style conference for seventh graders.
The conferences are designed to increase young people's interest in ESTEAM careers by giving them an opportunity to interact with role models in related fields. The seventh-grade attendees will participate in hands-on experiments and sessions led by local ESTEAM professionals, explore ESTEAM careers, hear from speakers on their ESTEAM experiences in related fields, and take part in a professional ESTEAM conference on a college campus.
ESTEAM is for girls and boys!
Each year, we will hold two ESTEAM conferences. In the fall we will host an event for local young women that will focus on current and historical accomplishments of female scientists, and will be led by professional women in ESTEAM careers. In the spring, we will take the same great ESTEAM curriculum and focus on current and historical accomplishments of male scientists, and professional men in ESTEAM careers lead young men in hands-on workshops.
ESTEAM is an Expo too!
On March 29, 2014 we will host the first ever ESTEAM Expo at the WNC Agricultural Center. The Expo will showcase the work done by students at the conferences as well as the work of our instructors, volunteers, and sponsors. This will be a fun day of hands-on activities, demonstrations, vendors and more! The Expo is free and open to the public - mark your calendars now!
ESTEAM is a collaboration.
The ESTEAM conferences and expo are a collaboration between The Mountain Office of the Science House of NC State University, BioNetwork, the A-B Tech Small Business Center, and our many teachers and professionals volunteering their time and energy to making ESTEAM happen.
