Admissions Procedures:

Applications for Medical Laboratory Technology will begin being accepted March 1, 2013 for Fall 2013 admissions. Summary of Application Period and Process:
Apply - March 1st , 2013 through April 5, 2013 in the Bailey Student Services Building. Please fill out a student application at www.abtech.edu/apply if you have not already done so. Bring high school or college transcripts showing English, math or chemistry requirements if applicable.
Where - students must see a Bailey Building Academic Advisor to be deemed eligible to apply by having college level test scores, transfer credit or all developmental courses completed. High school graduation, GED or Adult High School completion is required to apply. Completed high school or college level chemistry with a C or higher is required to apply to Medical Laboratory Technology. A student must meet the applicable minimum requirements listed above to be allowed to the take TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test which will rank applicants.
How are students selected - after deemed eligible to apply by meeting the requirements listed above, student is given a ticket to TEAS test by Bailey advisor and student pays ( $45) for, registers online & takes TEAS Version V test. The deadline to take the TEAS test is April 19, 2013. Applicants will be ranked using the TEAS Version V composite test score.

- AB Tech Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) graduates achieved a 100% pass rate on the American Society for Clinical Pathologist Board of Certification Exam - 2012 Graduating Class
- The 2012 Graduating MLT Class secured 100% employment rate within two months of graduation.
This curriculum prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunohematology that may be used in the maintenance of health and diagnosis/treatment of disease.
Course work emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assurance, and reporting/recording and interpreting findings involving tissues, blood, and body fluids.
Graduates may be eligible to take examinations given by the Board of Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the National Certifying Agency. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industry and research facilities.
Specific Entrance Requirements
- See an advisor in the Bailey Building as this program is now based on modified competitive admissions.
- General college admission requirements.
- High School units:
- High school level chemistry or college level Chemistry 092 required.
- Biology strongly recommended.
- Acceptable reports of medical examinations by first day of Practicum
- MLT 252.
- Completion of required immunizations including one dose of Hepatitis B vaccine.
- The College refund policy applies if a student drops the program after being denied clinical site privileges.
