HD Webcam
The Institute's High Definition Webcam provides a breathtaking view of the French Broad River Valley from its vantage point at 4000 ft. elevation on the North Rim of the valley.
Where is the camera pointed?
Looking due south, the webcam provides an unparalleled perspective of the weather that is impacting Asheville, Weaverville, Canton, Candler, Leicester, Marshall, Mars Hill, Bent Creek, Fairview, Arden, Fletcher, Swannanoa, Mills River, Brevard, Hendersonville, Mars Hill, and every community in between!

Can't see anything live because it's dark - or cloudy? No problem!

The control window located just below the live camera image at the top of the page allows you to access timelapse animations from any time period you choose. You can also control the speed of the animation using the slider control on the bottom right. You can speed it up to watch the clouds fly by - or slow it down to see the details. The choice is yours.
With the archive and time-lapse feature, there's always something to see, even if the current weather has the camera fogged in.
Watch as the fog lifts across the valley in the morning - then see the clouds develop and move across the sky throughout the day.
Can you see the haze reduce visibility as the day progresses?
You may even notice the clouds at different levels moving in different directions.
