Ways to Give
Join A-B Tech as we work together to make our community a better place to live and work!
A-B Tech is your Community's College! The Office of College Advancement’s mission is to partner with the stakeholders of our region to help ensure that quality educational opportunities are available to our students, faculty and staff.
As you know, even A-B Tech’s affordable post-secondary education is sometimes out of reach financially for some of our students—many of whom are training for a new career. More and more students are looking to A-B Tech to earn an Associate’s degree which will enable them to successfully and seamlessly transfer to a university.
As A-B Tech expands to meet the needs of Buncombe and Madison counties, the need for financial support to maintain our basic high quality programs, equipment and facilities continues. Therefore, on behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I want to thank you and honor all of you who so generously give to provide the critical financial support which we need annually to support the College.
And, I invite all A-B Tech alumni to reconnect with us!

The Foundation offers a variety of ways to give intended to provide you with greater flexibility to make your gift in the manner that best meets your needs. However you choose to give, 100% of your investment benefits students, faculty and staff at A-B Tech Community College!
Cash is the simplest way to give. Visit www.abtech.edu/donate to give online securely with your credit card. You can also make a contribution via check by mailing it to the Foundation. The A-B Tech Foundation also accepts single and multi-payment pledges. Please contact the Foundation for more information. Pledges are not deductible until paid.
Gifts in Kind
A-B Tech welcomes in-kind donations, which help the college keep pace with changing technology and equipment needs and meet the demands of increased enrollment.
Gifts in kind must:
- fulfill a stated need of one or more college departments, and
- be approved by Facilities or IT personnel to ensure compliance with existing infrastructure.
If directly related to A-B Tech’s mission, a gift in-kind may be tax deductible at current market value. If unrelated, the deduction is usually limited to what was paid for the item(s).
Appraisals may be required, and if a required appraisal is not submitted, the value of the gift will be recorded as $0. A-B Tech does not appraise gifts; donors are responsible for substantiating the value of donated items with the IRS and should contact their financial advisors or tax attorneys for assistance.
If your gift has an apparent value of less than $5,000, an appraisal is encouraged but not required. If your gift has an apparent value of $5,000 or more, the IRS requires an appraisal and IRS Form 8283. Exceptions include: 1) closely-held stock, which must be appraised only if the apparent value is $10,000 or more; 2) gifts of service; 3) gifts of out-of-pocket expenses; and 4) limited use of private property.
If your gift has an apparent value of $5,000 or more, an appraisal is encouraged but not required; however, a completed IRS Form 8283 is required if you plan to seek a tax deduction.
Gifts in-kind will be acknowledged with an official letter from the Foundation and included in A-B Tech’s Annual Report. Additional acknowledgements (signage, logo placement, press releases) may also be considered. If you’d like to make gift in-kind donation, please complete the Gift in Kind form and submit it to the Foundation. If you need assistance with the form, please call (828) 398-7177.
Planned gifts or deferred gifts are ways to provide ongoing support of A-B Tech students and programs. Donors may choose to make a bequest, establish charitable remainder trusts, create a gift annuity, or donate stocks and bonds. Donors should seek counsel from their financial advisor, attorney and/or tax professional. For more information, please contact Sue Olesiuk, Executive Director of the Foundation at 828.398.7176 or by email at email@example.com.
Stocks and Bonds
The A-B Tech Foundation welcomes gifts of stocks and bonds; our policies state that such gifts must be sold as soon as possible after we receive them. Donations of appreciated stocks or bonds can benefit donors (individuals and corporations), as they may deduct the full market value of appreciated stocks without paying capital gains taxes on the appreciated value.
Many companies match the charitable contributions their employees make – doubling the value of each gift! Check with your company’s HR department to find out if they offer a matching gifts program OR contact the Foundation.
Gifts of real estate can be an excellent way to make a large gift to the college while enjoying significant tax benefits. Gifts of real estate are typically made as outright gifts or part gift/part sale (also known as a bargain sale) but can also be made as the resource for a charitable remainder trust or retained life estates. A-B Tech Foundation accepts donations of these properties, among others: residence, vacation home, farm, commercial building, and undeveloped land.
