Sidewalks, parking lots and signage improvements

  • RFQs (Requests for Qualifications) were issued for design services for sidewalks, parking lots and signage improvements on the Asheville campus March 9, 2012 with a due date of March 27, 2012.
  • The A-B Tech Board of Trustees made a recommendation for a design firm for the Asheville Campus sidewalk, parking lot and signage project on May 7, 2012. The recommendation went to the State Construction Office for negotiation.
  • McGill Associates, the designer for sidewalk and parking lot improvements, submitted a proposal for review by A-B Tech and the State Construction Office June 21, 2012.
  • Schematic design work was under way by July 2012.
  • By October 2012, the schematic design work for the parking lots was complete, and construction was scheduled to be done in Spring 2013.
  • By the end of January 2013, the State Construction Office was reviewing construction documents for the parking lots, with a review by the City of Asheville to follow. A preliminary meeting with the City about sidewalks had been held, and the engineer was incorporating the City's comments.
  • Requests were sent out for informal bids for demolition of curbing and railroad ties for the sidewalks project. Paving is expected to occur in May and June 2013.
  • Prep work began the week of March 25 for paving the ballfield and Fernihurst parking lots.
  • Paving of the Fernihurst and softball field parking areas is underway.  New sidewalks will be constructed later in the summer along Victoria Road from Simpson to Hemlock.
  • Construction of Victoria Road sidewalks to begin Aug 8.
